I’m a fan of words. Reading, writing, speaking. They move me and provide a conduit for creativity, plus a host of other benefits.
My goal in writing has shifted over time, from career to personal blog to the current arrangement of professional but unpaid side gig. While I’m still sorting out the details and trying to figure out how to answer the question, “What do you do for a living?” I know my purpose in writing. It’s a calling akin to the Great Commission.
John Piper describes what this calling looks like:
There is the impulse to write, not only to learn and not only to create something beautiful or interesting or compelling, but also the impulse to instruct and awaken and delight and transform people into obedient worshipers of Christ.
I write to communicate the hope found in Christ alone as revealed through His Word and in the reality of our lives. My goals are simple:
- Point to Jesus.
- Lift up others.
- Connect to trustworthy resources.
